My experience of the LinkedIn Local as a host was magical. The events virtually ran themselves, filling up effortlessly every two months. Removing the profit and self-promotion elements was liberating. I heard conversations which you simply wouldn't hear at a "normal" networking meeting. Richer, deeper, more relaxed.
The pandemic brought an abrupt stop to face to face events. Sadly I think the LinkedIn Local in its original form, with a few exceptions, will not return - mainly due to LinkedIn's clumsy corporate takeover which paid no heed to the values that drove the event. A case of innocence lost.
The spirit lives on however and the lesson that a single idea and a small group of people can change the world.
